July - The Month of the Precious Blood

We have just entered the month of the Precious Blood again and we were blessed to be able to have our homeschooling get-together with friends yesterday, on the feast day where a few families were able to work together getting this month-long Precious Blood activity up and going. It is so simple but so effective.

The prayer is one that is recited each day by the whole family, once it is recited, one of the children take a drop of the Precious Blood (represented by the cardboard blood drops) and places it into the chalice underneath our statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. These two devotions dove-tail nicely together - June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart and it leads into the month of the Precious Blood - so we have the streams of blood from the Sacred Heart of Jesus flow down into the chalice (we have used cardboard this year instead of material)

The Precious Blood drops on the altar respresent the Blood Of Jesus that is despised, forgotten, abused and taken for granted throughout the whole world - we wish to make reparation for this abuse. Everything is displayed in such a way that even the smallest child can understand what is happening. In fact, it makes me think of the beautiful scene from The Passion movie where Our Lady and Mary Magdalene wipe up the Precious Blood after the scourging...

We were particularly blessed to be at the home of a lovely friend who has the most beautiful chapel in her home - a lovely, young priest came at 3pm to offer Mass, what a blessed day!

Here is the prayer if you would like to share it with your family:

An
Offering
Of the Precious
Blood for Souls

O my God, I beg of Thee in
union with the Immaculate Heart
of Mary, through the merits of the
Precious Blood offered Thee in every
Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world,
to grant that this day one mortal sin may be
averted, one soul in doubt may be converted to
the truth, one soul about to die in sin may receive
the grace of repentance and a happy death, and
the deliverance of that soul in purgatory which is
nearest Heaven. I wish by this offering to console
the Heart Of Jesus in agony for the souls lost
through the Teaching of error against the
true Church of Christ Jesus,
Our Lord. Amen

Anne - this was such a beautiful idea! I set up our home altar today in honor of His Precious Blood (and completely inspired by your idea!) How beautiful it is, and how captured the children are by the beauty and symbolism. I'm so grateful that you shared and inspired me! Deo Gratias! God bless you!
