My Jesus and I quilting fabric

I was recently shown how to hand sew a patchwork quilt and so I went down to our local fabric shop to look at the their quilting section, this is a shop that has unusual fabric and this day was no exception - look what I found: Some beautiful Catholic children's quilting fabric...like scenes out of the My Jesus and I child's book. It is not thin and flimsy fabric, it has good texture and quality.

Just take a look at some of these individual scenes....

They're touching, sweet scenes.

Just think of the things you could do with this material...make a Mass bag for the younger child.

Wouldn't this material make a beautiful pattern for a baby's bassinet or cot quilt?

Or a patchwork quilt for the young child...which is what I have just started on.

I bought 3 other patterns to compliment the My Jesus and I fabric.

Look what I did last night! Started cutting out my hexagon patterns, prepared the My Jesus and I patches and at this moment trying to work out how I am going to position all the patches.

I think I am going to really enjoy myself with this!
Editing to add: This is called "Story Time" by Robert Kaufman D#5829
Here is the link to the hexagon I used for my patterns, I just saved it to my computer and put it in paint shop to alter it to the size I wanted - a perfect shaped hexagon is important.

Oh, I LOVE IT!!! That is one of our favorite books too. I am going to have to see if I can find some of that... (and then learn to sew! ;)

Jessica, I have links in the the craft board at 4Real...and I DON'T know how to sew, this is why I delayed in doing something like this...I didn't realise that hand sewing was a realistic option until my friend showed me her work...I'd love to come back and show step by step photos of the making and sewing of this patchwork quilt, as I only needed someone to show me and I was away!

James, I have activated the link on my posting, so you can click on the words, "My Jesus and I book" and it will take you to the Seton homeschooling website, as far as I know, they are the only online sellers of this beautiful book.

My dear friend made us the most beautiful baby quilt from this fabric when our youngest (now almost 3) was born. I always got so many compliments on it when I took it out. DD is too old to carry it around now, but still sleeps with it. In fact she is sleeping with it now. The fabric has held up through many washings.

The friend who made this said she found the fabric at a local chain sewing store at an incredible price and couldn't pass it up. I love it as we use My Jesus and I with my preschoolers. It is wonderful to have such good friends!

my Jesus and i is a darling book. i ordered it after reading this post/thread and was so excited to receive it. i was a little bit surprised by the various rather scary pictures of the devil throughout. there's no way i'm going to read this book to my almost four year old. at what age did you start reading this book to your children?

Anne (aussieannie) said...

James, I read it to my children at that age and enjoyed it, from memory, they were facinated with the devil's pictures, but some children are much more sensitive than others, you may need to wait a little longer by the sounds of it.

You are so artistic. What beautiful coordinating fabric.

I've tried quilting ... oh boy was that unsuccessful. You might even get me to try again.
