Tuesdays with St Anne - a beautiful website

I wanted to share this wonderful link to a most beautiful website dedicated to St Anne. I had found it last year some time and then lost it and no matter how much I googled, I couldn't find it again, so it delights me to have found it to share with you, please drop by and have a look!

Abbot Trithemius

Remember my postings on Abbot Trithemius? (here and here) He had tremendous devotion to St Anne and had written a book on her, well I found today in a search of mine, the orginal document/book - here is a photo of it:

Johannes Trithemius. De laudibus sanctissime matris Anne tractatus (Treatise in Praise of the Holy Mother Anne) Leipzig: Melchior Lotter, [1500].

Healing for Soul and Body...

In the last few months I've been thinking about our drinking water....We have always had a filter under our sink but unfortuately at the end of this year our state government is going to introduce fluroide into everyone's drinking water. We do not want to be drinking that fluoride so it will mean will will have to upgrade our filter system to a reverse osmosis system. The thing is, it removes everything from the water including the minerals...but where there's a will there's a way, I say. So I thought if I bought a ceramic kitchen top water container I could add the water from our filter to the container and put Terramin Clay (which we have been using for years now) in the container to put back the essential minerals.

The Terramin Clay is a calcium based clay that has been proven to remineralize the body and remove toxins. NASA sponsered a study in the 60's and discovered the only effective product to reverse the osteoporosis in their astronauts (caused by weightlessness for extended periods) was clay - and the optimal clay was the Terramin Clay.

I was reading my Nourishing Traditions book the other night and flicking through the chapter on minerals to discover this passage:

"The proper way to take in minerals is through mineral-rich water; through nutrient-dense foods and beverages; through mineral-rich bone broths in which all of the macrominerals – sodium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sulphur – are available in ready-to-use ionized form as a true electrolyte solution; through the use of unrefined sea salt; and by adding small amounts of fine clay or mud as a supplement to water or food, a practice found in many traditional societies throughout the world. Analysis of clays from Africa, Sardinia and California reveals that clay can provide a variety of macro- and trace minerals including calcium, phosphorus, magnesium iron and zinc. Clay also contains aluminium, but silicon, present in large amounts in all clays, prevents absorption of this toxic metal and actually helps the body eliminate aluminium that is bound in the tissues.

When mixed with water, clay forms a temporary colloidal system in which fine particles are dispersed throughout the water. Eventually the particles settle to the bottom of the container, but a variety of mineral ions will remain in the water. These mineral ions are available for absorption, while other minerals that form an integral part of the clay particles may, in some circumstances, be available for absorption through ionic exchange at the point of contact with the intestinal villi.

Clay particles, defined as having a size less than 1-2 microns, have a very large surface area relative to their size. They carry a negative electric charge and can attract positively charged pathogenic organisms along with their toxins and carry them out of the body. Thus, clay compounds not only provide minerals but also can be used as detoxifying agents. As such, they facilitate assimilation and can help prevent intestinal complaints, such as food poisoning and diarrhea. They also will bind with antinutrients found in plant foods, such as bitter tannins, and prevent their absorption."

I had priced ceramic containers and I was looking at $165 or so...wow, alot of money...I thought I'd wait until the end of this year to purchase one, UNTIL I visited a garage sale and found this one (that suits my kitchen decor, how good is that?) it only cost me $20...it was minus it's lid but I just cover it will a plate or bowl.

Then I started reading a new book of mine The Medal or Cross of St Benedict and it mentioned in there that this sacramental medal could be used to dip into water to drink for spiritual and physical healing, I was interested to read the stories of that particular use....So I searched on ebay and bought myself a sterling silver St Benedict Medal with a stainless steel chain (something I could use in water safely.)

I took it to Father to receive the special exorcism blessing (not just a normal blessing) and then placed it in the bottom of my ceramic container (I was joking with some homeschooling mums recently that it is our 'St Benedict Well'.) The Church provides us with so many beautiful sacramentals, it is lovely draw upon and use daily these special gifts, (St Benedict Medal being one of them) that we use with faith and love.

Follow the link to find out more about the St Bendict Medal.

Here is our medal before we have added the clay.

All ready to go!
St Benedict, pray for us!

Happy St Anne Feast Day! - 3

Prayer time around St Anne's statue in the evening...

Here is our French-Canadian Pea Soup! Delicious! The only thing extra I added to the recipe was to stir in some Creme Fraiche (so French!) to make it extra creamy. The children loved it as well.
Can't have a feast without a nice bottle...especially if you are celebrating with the French. One for the children (non-alcoholic) and a nice drop of Fruitwood (sweet and fruity) for dh and I.

Cheers to St Anne!
Fruit pies are a sweet that is appropriate for the feast of St Anne in many parts of the world, so I made my apple and berries pie. I chop up 6-7 apples, throw in 250-300grams of frozen forest berries, a cup of sugar. I cook it up in a saucepan and take some of the juice and add it to a cup containing two tablespoons of arrowroot powder, mix it together and add back to the fruit.

I pour the fruit mix into a pie dish (I use pre-made butter pastry) and add the top and cook at 200 degrees (Aus measurements) for 40mins.

I used my alphabet cut-outs to make the name, "Anne" on the pie.

We would normally serve our pies with cream but for a feast day treat I bought some ice-cream....French vanilla flavour, of course!

Someone was lucky to get the piece with the letter 'A' on it.

One piece left with some extra fruit mixture...

I have such joy in my heart of late. We got back from WYD in Sydney on Tuesday evening, we only spent a few days down there due to a lot of challenges and problems in the week of WYD. We were going to leave Wed but one son twisted his ankle, another son got stung by a bee and had an extreme reaction for a day or so.

We wanted to leave Thurs but I woke up with bad pains and went to emergency for over half a day - 2 x-rays and 1 CT scan latter I found out that I had badly strained/inflamed a ligament along the left side of my body. We thought our chance was over, even though the emergency trip turned out well...but I then received a call from a dear friend who had faced her own struggles getting down to Sydney. We were thinking of travelling with them but both of us kept experiencing delays...they finally left early Thurs morning, drove into Sydney in the late afternoon, made a frantic dash to St Mary's Cathedral in the dim hope of being able to park and see the motorcade and they found a park very close by! (everything was cordoned off, I don't know how they did it...) and Elizabeth rang to say she was standing at St Mary's Cathedral, anything could happen even when things seem to be going wrong.

That call did it - we left early the next morning (Fri) our trip is a story in itself. I will write about it soon with our photos but I was unwell when we arrived so we were unable to get to the Papal Mass. We watched it on TV instead. It seemed that even though we were in the same city as the Holy Father, we wouldn't see him...I had peace though. God's will be done.

St Anne was holding my hand through it all. I was so anxious about being ill after all the health scares in the family in the previous days..we were going to a different city, not knowing where hospitals were and going into colder weather in winter...I must have prayed 50 or more St Anne chaplets on the 12 hour trip down...praying for all the concerns in my heart, I would just call upon her and trust her - all would be well.

On the Sunday evening after the Final Papal Mass, I got on the internet and checked to see what the Holy Father would be doing on the day he was due to fly out. I discovered that he would be travelling by popemobile from St Mary's Cathedral House (where Cardinal Pell lives) to the Domain (the gardens behind the Cathedral) where he would briefly thank the volunteers - a short 5min trip on the itinerary list and I had a faint hope we might be able to see the Holy Father between the two venues before he was to fly out mid morning.

We decided to head out early the next morning (6.30am) to drive into the heart of the city for the 8.45am short motorcade. We offered a St Anne chaplet, and between the Hail Mary's we said, "Jesus, Mary and St Anne, please keep us well and let us see the Holy Father."

We were blessed to have found a free parking space next to Hyde Park but discovered that the streets around the Cathedral were blocked off completely...my heart sank. But we continued to walk through Hyde Park with the Cathedral in view, hoping that we could find somewhere where we could see the Holy Father. There were volunteers walking in a certain direction, we followed.

Dh saw some volunteers directing others down a particular path, so he asked them where to go to see the Holy Father. We were told that you would only see the Holy Father if we had tickets to the Volunteer's gathering in the Domain. The lady asked whether we had any and we said we didn't. The only way to get in was with them...next moment she started handing us out some tickets!!! We were so delighted!

As we headed down, my husband turned back to look at the volunteers who had given the tickets...they were gone. It was such a small window of opportunity to have received them. We had forgotten to bring our camera that morning - that morning of all mornings, and when we discovered this 10mins into our drive we had considered turning around and going back to get it...but decided against it in the end...thank goodness, we would never have received the tickets if we had.

As I mentioned we didn't bring our camera but I found a great site that had photos of the event we attended so I have posted some of the pictures from this site. HT: Holy Father's Images

We entered the special area with the stage for the Holy Father, and sure enough, you could not have gotten in without those tickets..security was very tight as well. This was a very small affair compared to every other public event for the Holy Father, only 8 thousand people compared to 100's of thousands in the days past.

We were standing central to the stage and the Holy Father's chair, about 30metres back, with a very clear view.
When the popemobil finally entered the area we went to the barricades behind us and suddenly I heard calls, "He is kissing a baby! Quick where is a baby?" People along the rails could see that the Holy Father had stopped the popemobile to kiss a baby about 20 meters back and they wanted a baby near them in case he would stop again....there were hardly any children at the event as it was for the volunteers, so they saw our family and pulled us all to the front along the rails...next 10 seconds...the Holy Father passed, 1-2meters away from us, looking directly at us... He then went on to give his speech, we could see him clearly, we soaked up the wonderful occasion, on that beautiful Monday morning, we will never, never forget it.

All I could think was, "St Anne, you are simply awesome."

Later that afternoon we went to Watson's Bay where Fr Antoine (Children's Eucharistic Adoration) was, leading the children in a beautiful Holy Hour followed by Mass. As I was walking around the back of the church with a fussy baby, I looked up and saw the statue of St Anne...statues of St Anne are a rarity in churches these days, but here was one...it further consolidated in my heart and mind that this blessed day was all that it was, thanks to the powerful love and intercession of St Anne, my loving, heavenly grandmother.

Happy St Anne Feast Day! - 2

Here is our St Anne altar for the feast day. We had to keep everything very simple as mumps has just entered our home.. The colour gold kept coming to mind, so I bought gold cardboard, to lie on the altar, which then runs up the back of the wall behind the basket and flower arrangement. It wasn't until we got home that we realised it tied in with our prayer intentions basket made months ago. I also bought a lovely flower arrangement, sitting nicely in a yellow container with yellow and orange flowers.

I wanted a theme of 'The Holy Womb of St Anne' and because of sickness etc, we didn't have time for in-depth crafting so I found a beautiful glass bowl to represent St Anne's holy womb, the bowl has lillies in frosted glass around the rim (pure womb) and we lined it with gold stars within, sticking a few along the sides with glue. I printed a lovely image of Maria Bambina from the net and I have some of the Maria Bambina sacramental cotton from the Shrine in Italy, it is all very simple but effective/meaningful.

Then I found this beautiful information from the Catholic Culture website:

"St. Anne was for long the patroness of joiners and cabinet makers, and for the emblem of their guild they took a figure of St. Anne instructing her daughter. A curious choice, it seems at first glance. But they entwined round the two figures this inscription: "sic fingit tabernaculum Deo," thus she frames a tabernacle for God. These wood workers realized the parallel between themselves, the tabernacles they made, the Blessed Sacrament that was housed in them and St. Anne, our Lady and the Child she bore. "

I just think that is a beautiful inscription - I really wanted to do something with it and so I bought some wide, wired ribbon, a gold glitter pen and a packet of gold stars (same used in the Holy Womb of St Anne craft) I wrote the inscription on the ribbon and my oldest daughter decorated the ribbon with golden stars.

Here's a close up of the goregeous flowers, can't wait to see the lillies in it flower! We are about to prepare dinner and will say a St Anne chaplet tonight in front of the altar as a family.

My dh drew out a name from his Acubra hat this afternoon - Christine M was the name chosen, look forward to posting this chaplet out to you soon Christine!
I hope to come back and post for a third time today and share our story of seeing the Holy Father and St Anne's hand in it all.

Happy St Anne Feast Day! - 1 (Day Nine)

"Hail, spiritual bird, announcing the spring time of grace! Hail, sheep, mother of the ewe lamb, who by a word conceived the Word, the Lamb that taketh away the sins of the world! Hail, blessed earth, whence sprang the branch that bore the divine Fruit! O Anne, most blessed in God, grandmother of Christ our Lord, who didst give to the world a shining lamp, the mother of God; together with her intercede that great may be the mercy granted to our souls. Let us cry to holy Anne with cymbals and psaltery. She brought forth the mountain of God and was borne up to the spiritual mountains, the tabernacles of Paradise."

It was in the East that the mother of our Lady was first honored. The Greek church held her in tremendous reverence and sang her praises in words that echo the Akathist hymn above, that great song of praise written in her daughter's honour.

St. Anne Novena Prayer

Glorious St. Anne, filled with compassion for those who invoke you, with love for those who suffer, heavily laden with the weight of my troubles, I knee at your feet and humbly beg you to take my present need under your special protection. Request Vouchsafe to recommend it to your daughter, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and lay it before the throne of Jesus. Cease not to intercede for me until my request is granted. Above all, obtain for me the grace to one day meet God face to face, and with you and Mary and all the angels and saints praising Him through all eternity. Amen.

DAY NINE

Most holy mother of the Virgin Mary, glorious Saint Anne, I, a miserable sinner, confiding in your kindness, choose you today as my special advocate. I offer and consecrate my person and all my interests to your care and maternal solicitude. I hope to serve you and honour you all my life for the love of your most holy daughter and to do all in my power to spread devotion to you O my very good mother and advocate, deign to accept me as your servant, and to adopt me as your child. O glorious Saint Anne, I beg you, by the passion of my most loving Jesus, the Son of Mary, your most holy daughter, to assist me in all the necessities both of my body and my soul. Venerable Mother, I beg you to obtain for me the favor I seek in this novena request, and the grace of leading a life perfectly conformable in all things to the divine will. I place my soul in your hands and in those of your kind daughter. I confide it to you, above all at the moment when it will be about to separate itself from my body in order that, appearing under your patronage before the Supreme Judge, He may find it worthy of enjoying His Divine Presence in your holy companionship in Heaven. Amen.

Pray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, and 1 Glory Be....
Pray for us, Saint Anne.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

I have been to Mass early this morning and Father offered my Mass intention, "In Honour of St Anne" ~ we hope to do some craft today for the feast, I have made a nice colouring image of St Anne, using a computer program that converts images to line drawings:

I'd like to have the children make a golden tabenacle, that holds an image of the Maria Bambina (Child Mary) the tabenacle representing St Anne's womb that bore the Immaculate Conception. Also a banner with a beautiful inscription on it...I'll share more of that tonight.

For our St Anne feast tonight, I am making a traditional fruit pie using apples and berries, as this has been a custom in some parts of the world for her feast. Main meal...French-Canadian Pea Soup!

I will post again tonight with today's activities and the the name of the lady to whom I will be soon posting a St Anne chaplet to. Until then, "Happy Feast Day"

Mary Vitamin and St Anne

I've just picked up Helen's Mary Vitamin this evening, in honour of St Anne and so I've posted it here to share:

Mary Vitamin for July 25th

Topic: St. Anne and St. Joachim’s Feast Day
July 26

Quote:
St. John Eudes
“The womb of St. Anne was an ark of benediction, because it carried the star that brought forth the Sun of Justice, Jesus Christ, Our Savior and Our Lord, Who delivered us from the eternal curse and showered upon us every blessing.”
St. John Eudes, The Wondrous Childhood, (Preserving Christian Publications), 77.

Meditation:
“It was an ark of sanctification, enclosing within itself her who is an abyss of grace and a prodigy of sanctity. It was an ark wherein lay hidden the fairest treasure of heaven and earth. […] O how near to this treasure was the heart of God! Upon this most amiable treasure rested with content the eyes of Him Who was one day to declare :”Where thy heart is, there is thy treasure also.”
St. John Eudes, The Wondrous Childhood, (Preserving Christian Publications), 77-78.

Resolution:
When a great day approaches, a wedding, a graduation, the start of a new career, one keeps his eyes focused on this event. What could be a greater event than the Word was made flesh? Knowing that God’s love burns like a furnace, weren’t His eyes trained upon St. Anne and the prodigy of grace, the Blessed Virgin Mary awaiting the day He would take on human flesh? This will be my holy thought for today: I will remember the grandmother of the Lord.

Marian Vow:
According to Venerable Mary of Agreda, St. Anne said upon the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary:
“But how shall I behave properly towards her whom you’ve given me as my daughter, I who am not worthy to serve her?”
St. Anne admirably expresses the concern of those who have taken the Marian vow of total consecration to the Immaculate.

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.

Eighth Day of Thanksgiving Novena to St Anne

Amen.

DAY EIGHT

Remember, O Saint Anne, you whose name signifies grace and mercy, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, and sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto you, good, and kind mother; I take refuge at your feet, burdened with the weight of my sins. O holy mother of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, despise not my petition request. But hear me and grant my prayer. Amen.

Pray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, and 1 Glory Be....
Pray for us, Saint Anne.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Seventh Day of Thanksgiving Novena to St Anne

Amen.

DAY SEVEN

O Good Saint Anne, so justly called the mother of the infirmed. The cure for those who suffer from disease, look kindly upon the sick for whom I pray. Alleviate their sufferings; cause them to sanctify their sufferings by patience and complete submission to the divine will; finally deign to obtain health for them and with it the firm resolution to honor Jesus, Mary, and yourself by the faithful performance of duties. But, merciful Saint Anne, I ask you above all for the salvation of my soul, rather than bodily health, for I am convinced that this fleeting life is given us solely to assure us a better one. Now, we cannot obtain that better life without the help of God's graces. I earnestly beg them of you for the sick and for myself, especially the petition for which I am making in this novena request. Through the merits of our Lord Jesus Christ, through the intercession of His Immaculate Mother, and through the efficacious and powerful mediation, O glorious Saint Anne, Amen.

Pray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, and 1 Glory Be....
Pray for us, Saint Anne.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

DAY SIX

Glorious Saint Anne, mother of the Mother of God, I beg you to obtain through your powerful intercession the pardon of my sins and the assistance I need in my troubles. What can I not hope for if you deign to take me under your protection? The Most High has been pleased to grant the prayers of sinners, whenever you have been charitable enough to be their advocate. Kneeling at your feet, I beg you to help me in all spiritual and temporal dangers. To guide me in the true path of Christian perfection, and finally to obtain for me the grace of ending my life with the death of the just, so that I may contemplate face to face your beloved Jesus and daughter Mary in your loving companionship throughout eternity. Amen.

Fifth Day of Thanksgiving Novena to St Anne

I've only a couple of words......I'M FINALLY HOME!!!

Amen.

DAY FIVE

Great Saint Anne, how far I am from resembling you. I so easily give way to impatience and discouragement; and so easily give up praying when God does not at once answer my request. Prayer is the key to all Heavenly treasures and I cannot pray, because my weak faith and lack of confidence fail me at the slightest delay of divine mercy. O my powerful protectress, come to my aid, listen to my petition. Make my confidence and fervor, supported by the promise of Jesus Christ, redouble in proportion as the trial to which God in His goodness subjects me is prolonged, that I may obtain like you more than I can venture to ask for. In the future I will remember that I am made for Heaven and not for earth; for eternity and not for time; that consequently I must ask, above all, the salvation of my soul which is assured to all who pray properly and who persevere in prayer. Amen.

Pray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, and 1 Glory Be....
Pray for us, Saint Anne. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Good Saint Anne, you who did suffer much during the twenty years that precede your glorious maternity, I beseech you, by all your sufferings and humiliations, to grant my prayer. I pray to you, through your love for your glorious spouse Saint Joachim, through your love for your immaculate child, through the joy you did feel at the moment of her happy birth, not to refuse me. Bless me, bless my family and all who are dear to me, so that some day we may all be with you in the glory of Heaven, for all eternity. Amen.

Pray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, and 1 Glory Be....

Vouchsafe to commend me to Jesus and Mary so that, at your request, I may be granted remission of my sins, perseverance, the love of God, charity for all mankind, and the special grace of request, which I stand in need at the present time. First Day of Thanksgiving Novena to St Anne

**EDITING TO ADD: AT THE END OF EACH DAILY NOVENA PRAYER IS THE LINK TO THE NEXT DAY'S NOVENA PRAYER, SO YOU CAN FOLLOW THE LINKS RIGHT THROUGH TO DAY NINE OF THIS NOVENA.

St. Anne Novena Prayer

Glorious St. Anne, filled with compassion for those who invoke you, with love for those who suffer, heavily laden with the weight of my troubles, I knee at your feet and humbly beg you to take my present need under your special protection. Request Vouchsafe to recommend it to your daughter, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and lay it before the throne of Jesus. ease not to intercede for me until my request is granted. Above all, obtain for me the grace to one day meet God face to face, and with you and Mary and all the angels and saints praising Him through all eternity. Amen.

DAY ONE

Great Saint Anne, engrave indelibly on my heart and in my mind the words that have reclaimed and sanctified so many sinners: "What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world if he lose his own soul?" Ninth Day of Petition Novena to St Anne

Novena to Saint Anne

Prayers to be prayed before the days' prayers:

O glorious St. Anne, you are filled with compassion for those who invoke you and with love for those who suffer! Heavily burdened with the weight of my troubles, I cast myself at your feet and humbly beg of you to take the present intention which I recommend to you in your special care. Please recommend it to your daughter, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and place it before the throne of Jesus, so that He may bring it to a happy issue. Continue to intercede for me until my request is granted. But, above all, obtain for me the grace one day to see my God face to face, and with you and Mary and all the saints to praise and bless Him for all eternity. Amen.

Pray 1 Our Father, and 1 Hail Mary
O Jesus, Holy Mary, St. Anne, help me now and at the hour of my death.
Good St. Anne, intercede for me.

NINTH DAY

Good St. Anne, I have reached the end of this novena in your honor. I have asked and ask again. Good mother, let not your kind ear grow weary of my prayers, though I repeat them so often.
Bounteous Lady, implore for me from divine Providence all the help I need through life. May your generous hand bestow on me the material means to satisfy my own needs and to alleviate the plight of the poor.

Good St. Anne, fortify me by the sacraments of the Church at the hour of my death. Admit me into the company of the blessed in the kingdom of heaven, where I may praise and thank the adorable Trinity, your grandson Christ Jesus, your glorious daughter Mary, and yourself, dear St. Anne, through endless ages.

Eighth Day

Hail, St. Anne! I rejoice at your exalted glory. You gave birth to Mary, whose divine Son brought salvation to our lost world by conquering death and restoring life and hope to sinners. Pray to Him who, for love of us, clothed Himself with human flesh in the chaste womb of your daughter.

Glorious St. Anne, with your blessed daughter, deliver me from everything that is displeasing in the sight of God. Pray to your gentle and powerful Grandson that He may cleanse my soul in His precious blood, that He may send His Holy Spirit to enlighten and direct me in all that I do, always obedient to His holy inspirations. Good mother, keep a watchful eye on me. Help me bear all my crosses. Give me the fullness of your bounty and sustain me with courage.
